Author, musician, and guitar builder with a passion for mystery, music, and second chances.

Mark S. Bonta is a lifelong musician, rock fan, and champion of second chances. With a background in workforce development and leadership, he writes with a deep understanding of people—their struggles, their grit, and their quiet victories. He is the creator of the Hard Rokk Mysteries, a multimedia crime-thriller experience that fuses novels, original rock music, and immersive narrative elements into a single world. Beginning with Hard Rokk Murder and continuing through Hard Rokk Song of the Embers, Hard Rokk Tour of Terror, and Hard Rokk Record of Lies, the series grows increasingly darker, broader, and more cinematic while remaining rooted in its characters, mysteries, and music-driven identity. The Hard Rokk universe also includes the special holiday release Hard Rokk Christmas Carol Killer, a dark seasonal mystery driven by music at its core.

Beyond writing, Mark shares his passion for music and guitars with an engaged online community. On his BleedForIt YouTube channel, where more than 1,000 followers tune in, he performs Van Halen covers using replica guitars he once built by hand. The stories behind those builds are documented on his Van Bonta Guitars blog, a chronicle of craftsmanship, experimentation, and the joy of chasing authentic sound.

Mark is also the author of Empathic Leader: Nurturing Growth in a Recovery-Informed Environment and works actively in the recovery-friendly workplace movement. His decades of leadership and workforce experience deliberately shape themes throughout the Hard Rokk Mysteries—including trust, accountability, loyalty, recovery, second chances, and the choices people make under pressure. He believes in the power of redemption—both in life and on the page.
